Rochechouart, Limousin - Haute Vienne

A scenic french hill village, only 12km from our Limousin Bed & Breakfast in Cussac, Haute-Vienne. Rochechouart is built on a huge meteorite and is famous for its twisted church spire. As well as a selection of shops, banks, bars and restaurants, Rochechouart also has it's own small lake and beach area suitable for sunbathing and fishing. The town and surrounding haute-vienne countryside is overlooked by a picturesque chateau that is now home to a modern art gallery open to the public all year round.

Nontron ~ Gateway from Limousin to the Dordogne

Nontron ~ Limousin / Dordogne

About half-way between the market town of Piegut and Brantome the unusual town of Nontron is set high on a steep hill, overlooking the red slate roofs of the old houses in the narrow meandering streets below the town centre. Nontron is famous for the manufacture of knives and bellows. Each year in April there is a large carnival where locals from miles around dress up in nightgowns and clogs and drag huge bellows through the streets. Only half hour or so away from our B&B, Nontron is also a great town to visit if you need a larger selection of shops or supermarket.


Brantome ~ the Dronne Valley, Dordogne

A favourite of guests of our Bed and Breakfast, Limousin, is a day trip to the Dordogne to the beautiful town of Brantome, known as the Venice of the Perigord. Brantome is famous for its street cafes on the river Dronne and it's stunning chateau and abbey at the base of the sheer cliffs. Brantome also has a large selection of traditional french shops, a lovely park by the river with shady picnic areas and a fantastic Friday market.
Time permitting, follow the river a little further south to the village of Bordeilles which claims some of the most stunning scenery in The Dordogne.

St Yreix la Perche

St Yreix ~ Limousin

St Yreix la Perche is another larger town which is a firm favourite of guests of our Bed and Breakfast, Limousin. St Yreix is famous for the production of Kaolin, used in the production of porcelain and the Cul-Noir pig which features on the menus of the towns numerous restaurants.

The enthusiast of the classic motor car will discover St Yreix regularly hosts motor shows and classic car meets.

Listed as one of the most beautiful villages of France, Segur le Chateau, in the Correze region of Limousin, is dominated by the fortified castle built on a steep rocky outcrop overlooking the Auvezere River. Take a leisurely stroll around the peaceful, tranquil village with its turreted and half-timbered houses, spiral staircases, mullioned windows and narrow streets and alleyways decorated with flowers. Visit the arboretum which forms part of a botanical walk and discover over 60 species of plants.

The stunning town of Confolens with it's riverside architecture is spanned by beautiful stone and granite bridges with stunning views along the river.

For two weeks in the Summer the town of Confolens comes alive when it holds its famous "World Festival" which along with street markets, huge firework displays and food festivals, also provides entertainment from various countries around the world.
